Dalian

China's climate is one of extremes -- hot summers in most parts of the country, bitter winters in the north and comfortable winters in the south. Spring rains can make southern cities (especially Guilin and Guangzhou) dreadfully humid. Sandstorms can be a problem in the north (including Beijing) in April. Tibet can be bitter cold, even in the autumn and late spring. Bordered by the Bohai Sea and the Yellow Sea, Dalian is situated at the southern end of the Liaodong Peninsula in northeastern China. This is a warm temperate zone with a semi-moist monsoon climate and ocean climate features.

The annual average temperature of Dalian is from 8 to 11 C (about from 46 to 52 F) and it has four distinct seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter. Influenced by the mild ocean winds from the Bohai Sea and the Yellow Sea, the city has a good climate with an annual rainfall of 550 to 1000 millimeters, over 60% of which falls during the summer period.

INTERNATIONAL SCHOOLS

There are only 3 schools which teach children in English in Dalian.

Since local schools are all taught in Chinese, International Schools are not the only option for Chinese-speaking expatriates. Some do choose to send their children to local schools if the company does not cover their education cost, but only a select few are open to foreigners. Children can be placed together in a “foreigners’ class”, which can be a lonely experience if no-one else shares their native language.
